Dr Salsa

Dr Roland, a French national, was born in Benin in West Africa, the country of ritual dance and music known under the generic name of “vaudou”. He was raised in an atmosphere of authenticity where he received music and dance influences that go back to the roots of Salsa. In the African traditional context, dancing has both social and religious purposes. Roland also received the ritual initiation to perform the “sacred dances” steps.

As a dancer, Dr Roland has developed a unique style blending African traditional expressions, Afro-Cuban, Rumba and modern Salsa. He is also a renowned Salsa DJ with a powerful and percussive musical selection signature.

Hailed as “Dr Salsa” for his deep knowledge of Salsa history and concepts, he is a columnist on Salsa and related topics. With his dedication to community culture, he always manages to combine his professional activities as a university lecturer around Asia with teaching Salsa and DJing. As a Thai resident and influential leader of the local Salsa scene, he plays at major events in Thailand with other world class DJs.

Dr Salsa is the founder of Salsa Concept and owner of the Salsa Concept international trademark. He is the pioneer of Sunday Salsa events in Bangkok, which has become a way of life with visitors from around the world.

Last but not least, Dr Roland is an active member of the International Dance Council (CID-UNESCO). He is committed in building cultures and communities as well as promoting dance expressions beyond boundaries.
